third CHANEL SWIM ATTEMPT

Once again we have Colette Defoe to thank for donations surrounding her latest chanel swim attempt. Colette used her swimming talent for the benefit or our charity and we would like to say a big “thank you” for such a big effort. You can find out how it went by visiting www.virginmoneygiving.com/ColetteDefoe. One of our first small grants went to support an amputee swimming group to access a local pool and so Colette’s attempt was very interesting for us and our supporters! Colette we think you are amazing!

Stewart Bondi, PORT-ER Trustee & organiser, with some of the participants of the 2015 marathon.

The event, held on 2 May 2015, saw both runners and walkers achieve 26.2 miles with an ascent of 4,500 feet. The event was organised by Stewart Bondi who is also a PORT-ER Trustee, and was registered with the Fell Runners Association. We are immensely grateful for a donation of £1000 raised from the event. This sum will go directly as a grant from PORT-ER to 500 miles to further support the “Burn injuries and disability project”, Malawi. (See projects page for more information).

This was more than a marathon, with shorter courses and walking options available, meaning people of different fitness levels and abilities could take part. Well done to the fastest completion times (tbc) which were:

Colette’S channel SWIM ATTEMPT.

We were very impressed with Colette Defoe’s attempt to swim the channel for PORT-ER! Colette’s September swim challenges included sea sickness and avoiding  hazards like hypothermia, jellyfish, debris and up to 600 tankers and 200 ferries daily. Colette managed about 14 miles out of 21 miles and we think that is a great achievement. You can still sponsor Colette by visiting www.virginmoneygiving.com/ColetteDefoe.
